Suzanne Obetz, executive director of The Middleburg Museum, and Doug Myers, president of The Middleburg Museum Foundation, have some exciting news to share.
“The Middleburg Museum is expanding into a larger space next door to The Pink Box,” Suzanne said. “We’ll be opening the museum sometime this Spring with new exhibits and artifacts from Middleburg and the surrounding area. We plan to offer special programs, memberships and events for the whole family.”
The new 2,000 square feet of museum space is adjacent to The Pink Box museum in the building formerly occupied by Long and Foster Real Estate on North Madison Street.
Plans are underway to immediately “freshen up the space and start to curate exhibits with the artifacts we have on hand,” Suzanne told Country ZEST. “We also plan to start working toward acquiring new artifacts from community members and other institutions. Long term plans include an updated website with digital archives and oral histories, new and exciting exhibits and programs with guest lecturers and history related events.”
Doug Myers, his wife Michelle and their family have lived in the Middleburg area for more than ten years. They’re serial entrepreneurs and also are the co-organizers of Christmas in Middleburg. Doug joined the Middleburg Museum board of directors in 2021 and was elected president of the board in January.
"We plan to continue our brick campaign where the community can leave their legacy on the museum property and to actively start fundraising with our new concept in mind,” Doug said. “Now that we have the space, we can invite the community to see the great things we’re doing and encourage them to be a part of it."
Doug said the short-term goal for the Middleburg Museum is to offer programs and events and to gather a vast collection of artifacts.
“Long term we want to be able to share with future generations our story and have a positive impact on this community. We want to be an anchor for Middleburg history."
